Job Description

Company Summary : Our client is a well-established multi-line insurance corporation with over 50 years of experience providing auto, home, and business insurance coverage. They are currently seeking to expand their team by adding a Commercial Field Underwriter.

Location : This role requires significant travel within the Minneapolis, MN market and surrounding areas. A company car will be provided to facilitate effective agency relations.

About the Job: This position is responsible for achieving growth and profit objectives through effective risk selection, book management, business development, and agency management.

Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting: Select and price risks for profit and growth according to department guidelines, maintaining logical documentation and understanding of risk exposure, classifications, and pricing.
  • Risk Management: Refer risks outside of authority with thorough pre-underwriting, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in the quality review process and ensure underwriting actions align with pricing models.
  • Agency Management: Develop and manage the new business pipeline, monitor agency performance, and execute annual success and territory plans.
  • Producer Relations: Manage production, profitability, and relationships with agencies, conducting training and increasing awareness of underwriting appetites and product offerings.
  • Territory Leadership: Develop and implement territory plans, mentor less experienced underwriters, and monitor market conditions to recommend new or improved products and services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or CPCU designation, or equivalent education and experience, with a preference for three or more years in commercial multiple lines underwriting.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, sales, negotiation, PC, and work management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Drivers License (Significant travel required to develop effective agency relations.)
  • Self-starter capable of working independently in a remote setting; must be located in the current market or surrounding area.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
